Manulo Nguime – Dibumbe
Born in Dibombari a town north of Douala, Nguime Manulo was discovered in the late 1970s by Salle John, who revived Ambass-Bey during the 1970s. Ambass-Bey originated among the Yabassi people and grew popular in Douala after World War II.
Through the 1950s and 1960s, the style evolved in the Cameroonian Littoral. In the mid-1960s, Eboa Lotin performed a style of Ambass-Bey on harmonica and guitar that was the earliest form of Makossa, a style that quickly came to overshadow its predecessor.
It is in the ranks of Salle John's band Johnco that the young Manulo continues to develop his skills on rhythm and solo guitar.
In 1982 Manulo left Johnco and recorded his first solo record, the 12 inch single Dibumbe. With this record Manulo created a fruitfull fusion between Ambass-Bey and Makossa.

Les gars de l’époque étaient fort ! des vrais musiciens très techniques par dessus tout ! mais la seul tristesse à noter, c’est qu’ils n’ont pas été suffisamment médiatisés hors cameroun ou quand bien même à très faible échelle…
frangin ! moi j’suis camer residant à libreville pour le moment , parfois lorske j’mets des anciens makossa ds la voiture ke j’roule , ya certains gabonais ki apprecient , le makossa a kan même fait de beaux jours o gabon! par exemple prince eyango , you must calculer , chauffe encore ici , ya certains gabonais ki aiment bien les anciens makossa , ya bill loko (nen lambo) ke certains gabonais apprecient frangins , ya ekambi ossi!
Franchement tu as trop raison ! quand tu me dis bill loko c’est pouce vert le haut ! le makossa des anciens est perpétuellement incontestable sur tous les points ! la nouvelle génération s’est beaucoup inspirée du travail des “pères” du makossa je suis aussi camerounais mais né en europe ! j’ai été bercé par ces morceaux d’anthologie, je ne peux qu’appuyer et valider tes dires ! les camerounais sont très fort ! artistiquement parlant même si au pays j’ai une préférence pour le Bikutsi
mais moi ossi j’adore le bikutsi , est-ce ke tu sais ke lady ponce fait de ravage ici o gabon? bon pour le moment ya un ancien bikutsi ke j’ecoute actuellement c’est manga mbarga (congelées) j’te conseille de taper son nom ici sur youtube et tu verras le morceau c’est trop bon! en passant , moi j’suis bassa né à dla!

les têtes brûlées c’etait l’ekipe nationale du bikutsi incontestable , essingan c’est le son de toujours frangin!
